WhatsApp Contacts Not Showing Names on iPhone

Is your WhatsApp showing numbers but not the names of your iPhone contacts? Finding yourself in a situation of this manner can be frustrating, as communication via WhatsApp becomes quite stressful and near impossible sometimes. Let’s fix it!

One reason for not seeing the names is that WhatsApp has not refreshed the contact list. This is usually done automatically but all you need to do is refresh the list manually.

Refresh my contacts on WhatsApp manually on your iPhone

To refresh WhatsApp contacts manually on your iPhone, follow the steps below:

  • Open WhatsApp, and go to your “Favorites” tab.

  • Scroll to the top of your Favorites list, then pull the list down with your finger.

Your WhatsApp contacts list will now be refreshed. Your Favorites will be sorted alphabetically, and the numbers will be changed to the names of your WhatsApp contacts.

If you are still unable to view your contacts after refreshing, it is advisable that you check your iPhone settings. This is to confirm whether or not WhatsApp has the permission to access contacts saved to your phone book.

Give permissions to WhatsApp to access my contacts on iPhone

To make certain whether you have given your WhatsApp permission to access your contacts, follow the steps below:

  • Go to Settings, tap on Apps, and select WhatsApp from the list.

  • Click Permissions and ensure that all the permissions are turned on.

It is noteworthy to mention that, when a person sends you a message on WhatsApp for the first time, WhatsApp will show the contact’s number. This happens because the contact’s name is yet to be saved on your iPhone. Now, to see the contact’s name on WhatsApp, all that you are required to do is save the new contact’s name on your phone.

Did you know, you can automatically add info to your contacts, like their picture, their job description, company and much more using a service like Covve. Covve automatically scans the web, adds contact info and helps you seamlessly stay in touch with your contacts. Check it out here.
